Admission Criterea

To ensure that the prospective service user is assisted to make the right decision when selecting a home, we at the Queens invite them in, wherever possible to visit for a day to judge for them selves whether the home will provide the facilities and right environment to meet their needs.

During this visit, they will be asked to help us to fill in an assessment form, which will be used by staff in the home to help plan care, should they decide to live at the Queens. If for any reason problems are highlighted during this visit, the potential service user and their family will be advised immediately.

In some cases it may be necessary to admit a person as an emergency measure. Usually the referral for an emergency admission would come from a Social Worker, District Nurse or other relevant qualified person. In that case as much information as possible will be gathered over the telephone. An immediate decision will be made by the person in charge, based on this information as to whether the person’s care needs can be met at the Queens Care Centre. As soon as the person arrives the person in charge will complete a full assessment.

Once admitted, and following a trial period of approximately six weeks, the service user, service user’s family, senior staff at the home and social worker will meet to discuss whether the service user’s expectations have been met and whether any problems have arisen. If all parties involved are satisfied that all care needs are being met, the service user will be asked if they wish to reside permanently at the Queens Care Centre.

Leisure opportunities, Family and Friends Contact

The centre has an “open door” policy but visitors are requested to sign in and out in the visitor’s book located on the main desk at reception.

We aim for service users to remain part of the community by encouraging open visiting, arranging social events and outings. Service users are given every assistance to pursue their own social activities outside the home should they wish. We have close links with all the local churches and service users are free to join in any of the services which regularly take place in the home, alternatively, the service user can choose to worship in their own church and staff will assist with arrangements for this.

To enable service users to achieve their fullest potential, the activities coordinator implements a structured programme of activities.

Daily living skills are encouraged and service users have a meaningful lifestyle, as their health will allow.

We hold regular service user and relative support group meetings where service users and relatives are free to put forward ideas and suggestions for future activities and events. We also feel that these meetings help us to create friendly, open relationships with our service users and their relatives. The Manager of the home has an “open door” policy but if not available on the day, he can be seen by appointment.

Appetising and nourishing meals with varied menus are served either in the dining rooms or if preferred in the service users bedroom.

Personal laundry services are provided in house but we do not supply dry cleaning services.
